Dr. He has been engaged in the pharmaceutical industry for more than 30 years. In 2018, he established CureGene and served as CEO. Prior to this, Dr. He worked as a Scientist and senior R&D Director in the U.S. headquarter of Gilead Science Inc. Later he was expatriated to China and served as the chief representative officer and GM of Gilead Science in China.
Dr. He has participated in and led the research and development of several international best-in-class new drugs, and he is the key inventor and project leader of TAF, a widely used anti-HIV/HBV drug in the world. Dr. He is also a co-inventor of several antiviral therapies. Dr. He has rich R&D experience and extensive achievements in the fields of cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, nucleic acid and various antiviral therapies.
Dr. He has extensive experience and profound industry insights in the field of chemical synthesis, R&D project management, supply chain management and corporate management. During his tenure as the chief repre
sentative officer and GM of Gilead China, he has gained comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical operation system in China and accumulated extensive resources.
Dr. He holds a Ph.D. in synthetic chemistry from Kyushu University, Japan, and completed postdoctoral research at the University of California, Santa Barbara, U.S.
Gongxin He, Ph.D.
Founder and CEO
Dr. Chen currently serves as the VP of Chemistry at CureGene. He has more than 25 years of R&D experience in drug discovery and possesses extensive expertise, particularly in structural biology andcomputational chemistry.
Before joining CureGene, Dr. Chen was a 19-year veteran at Gilead Sciences, first participating in the late-stage development of Tamiflu® (Oseltamivir), the world's first oral anti-influenza drug, later he also made key R&D contributions to the multiple blockbuster drugs for AIDS, HBV, and HCV, including Biktarvy® for AIDS and Vosevi® for HCV. Additionally, while at Stanford University, Dr. Chen deepened his understanding and gained more experience in the pathogenesis of liver cancer and related drug research.
Dr. Chen Xiaowu received his bachelor's degree from Xiamen University, and obtained his Ph.D. in biophysics/biochemistry from Pennsylvania State University. He completed his postdoctoral research in structural/computational chemistry at the University of California, San Francisco. He was also a visiting scholar at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Chen is a co-inventor of 21 patents related to new drug research and he has published 47 academic journal articles with international impact.
Xiaowu Chen, Ph.D.
VP, Chemistry
Dr. Nie currently serves as the VP of Biology at CureGene. As a senior virologist, Dr. Nie has more than 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and has been deeply involved in the R&D of oligonucleotides drugs for antiviral therapies for more than 10 years.
Before joining CureGene, Dr. Nie held senior R&D positions at Aligos Therapeutics, Janssen, and Assembly. Prior to that, he served as a senior research and development scientist at Roche R&D Center and Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr. Nie has led the clinical development of two oligonucleotides drugs in the field of RNAi and has a profound understanding of immunology, molecular virology, oligonucleotides drug research, and virus-host interaction models. He also possesses extensive experience in R&D and project management of oligonucleotides drugs in the field of tumor immunology.
Dr. Nie received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Peking University and completed his postdoctoral research in Microbiology at Columbia University in the U.S.
Yuchun Nie, Ph.D.
VP, Biology
Ms. Yan Hua currently serves as the Senior Director of Clinical Project Management at CureGene. As a senior scientist in preclinical management, Ms. Yan has nearly 40 years of experience in drug R&D management.
Before joining CureGene, Ms. Yan held various positions across clinical trials, regulatory filings, pharmacology, toxicology, and new drug R&D management at Shanghai Xuhui District Central Hospital, BMS, and Shanghai Xinshengyuan Pharmaceutical. Prior to CureGene, she served as the R&D Director of New Drug at Aibo Pharmaceutical.
Ms. Yan graduated from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Fudan University in Shanghai in 1985, majoring in Pharmacology.
Hua Yan
Sr. Director，Project Management
Ms. Chen has over 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry served for multiple MNCs. Before joined CureGene, she worked as Director of Project Management in Gilead Sciences and be responsible for market access for several first-in-class innovative drug, including Vemlidy®, Sovaldi®, Harvoni®, Epclusa®, and Vosevi®, etc.; she also deeply participated in the global R&D supply chain management, and be involved in the general management of Gilead's first manufacturing site in China.
Jessica Chen
COO
More than 20 years of financial management experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. Ms. Yao, currently serves as VP at CureGene, taking leadership of Finance and BD. She possesses extensive management skills, excelling in company strategy, financing and capital management, business development, budgeting and analysis, and tax planning. She plays a critical role in company decision-making, continually driving financial stability and operational efficiency for company value growth. Prior to joining CureGene, She held financial leadership roles at PE Fnd, MNC and several Biopharms, eg., Gilead Sciences, CBC Capital and Hasten Biotech. Earlier in her career, she worked as audit and tax advisor at PwC and KPMG. She graduated from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics with a bachelor's degree and obtained a master's degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
